No. new house could be condo or freehold same as old one. And condo is not bad for town home over the years in my opinion. First it cost less a freehold, the different at monthly payment could cover a large part of you condo fee. You pay a condo fee but some of it would be in reserve. When you change the roof, driveway, paint outside of your house, the money is coming from reserve. And condo will take care of lawn and snow remove. It is more easy life. And one of the best thing I think for older townhouse is condo govern outside of the house, so it keep the look of the whole condo same, but freehold everybody do their own things, this one paint this color and that one was painted at different color. Someone don't take care their house and you don't have a say about it even your houses are linked.
So for older townhouse over 20 to 30 year I prefer a condo over freehold.
