Ottawa Chinese Community Service Centre is a non-profit, non-partisan charitable organization committed to advancing the full social and economic integration of newcomers into the main stream society in the Ottawa-Carleton Region. Now we have five positions open to public: Receptionist, LINC Coordinator and Settlement Workers (full-time and part-time).
1. Receptionist
Position Type: Receptionist
Employment Status: This is a full time contract (35 hours/week)
Term: September 2007 - March 31, 2007 (with the possibility of an extension)
Responsibilities:
• Answer incoming and outgoing calls and direct to appropriate staff member.
• Receive, screen, transfer and respond to telephone calls and messages.
• Schedule and book appointments for clients and staff.
• Assist with client intake process, filling out forms and client data entry
• Greet visitors and clients
• Maintain a neat reception area and front desk
• Direct clients to appropriate services/workers: e.g. ISAP worker, LINC Coordinators, JSW worker or Counselling worker
• Sort incoming mail and processes outgoing mail
• Provide front line support and direct office traffic
• Maintain a neat reception area and front desk
• Manage waiting area / resource room
• Perform other clerical duties as required
Key Qualifications:
• Two years related work experience
• Spoken and written Chinese (Mandarin and/or Cantonese) and English language skill essential.
• Ability to exercise good judgment and tact in dealing with clients
• Highly organized, attentive to detail; good time management skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions
• Computer Literate (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and willing to learn internal database
2. LINC Coordinator
Position Type: LINC Coordinator
Employment Status: This is a full time contract (35 hours/week)
Term: September 2007 ? July 31, 2008
The major responsibilities of the LINC coordinator pertain to students’ enrolment and attendance, supervision for teachers, curriculum and staff development.
Qualifications:
• Good command of English and Chinese (preferably Mandarin & Cantonese) both in writing and speaking
• Strong skills in planning, organization, and communication with teachers, students.
• Proven experience in working with new immigrants
• Ability to outreach and promote language programs offered at OCCSC.
• Ability to work with other service agencies and education institutions to provide quality training programs for different needs of clients.
• Demonstrated track record work on completion of reports and other work accurately and on a timely basis
• Proficiency in computer applications including desktop publishing, word processing (English and Chinese) and Excel.
• Experience and knowledge in preparing and filing government funding applications.
• Possess a certificate in teachers' training and/or ESL teachers' training or equivalent
• At least 2 years administration experience, preferably in program coordination
• Experience in ESL teaching and curriculum development.
• Be able to work in some evenings and weekends
• Possess a valid Ontario driver's license
3. Settlement Worker
Position Type: Settlement Worker
Employment Status:
1. Full-time position of 35 hours per week.
2. Part-time Maternity Replacement Contract (21 hours/week)
Term: September 2007 ? June 30, 2008
Qualifications:
• Undergraduate degree (preferably in social science) plus one year related experience; and/or equivalent combination of training & experience
• Familiar with new immigrant settlement issues and provide information and orientation for successful integration of newcomers.
• Knowledge of local community resources, including government and non-government services
• Ability to organize and facilitate workshops for groups.
• Ability to outreach and promote services for OCCSC.
• Ability to work with agencies and service providers to improve client access to services.
• Ability to provide cross cultural education and training for other agencies or communities.
• Good command of oral/written English & Mandarin, & knowledge of Cantonese is an asset
• Proven strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Understanding & application of confidentiality
• Strong computer skills with working knowledge of word processing programs (Microsoft Word & Chinese), PowerPoint Presentation, Excel, Internet and Email
4. Computer Technical Support
Status: 6 months
Qualifications:
• Maintain, troubleshoot and administer the use of OCCSC networks (LANs), Database and Computer lab
• mainframe networks, computer workstations, connections to the Internet and peripheral equipment
• Evaluate and install computer hardware, networking software, operating system software and software applications
• Monitor the performance of computer systems and networks and to co-ordinate access and use of computer networks
• Provide problem-solving services to network users
• Install, maintain, troubleshoot and upgrade Web-server hardware and software
• Implement network traffic and security monitoring software, and optimize server performance
• Perform routine network start up and close down and maintain control records
• Perform data backups and disaster recovery operations
• Conduct tests and perform security and quality controls
• Control and monitor e-mail use, Web navigation, and installed soft wares
• Perform shell scripting or other basic scripting tasks Consult with clients to develop and document Web site requirements
• Prepare mock-ups and storyboards Develop Web site architecture and determine hardware and software requirements Source, select and organize information for inclusion and design the appearance, layout and flow of the Web site Create and optimize content for the Web site using a variety of graphics, database, animation and other software
• Plan, design, write, modify, integrate and test Web-site related code Conduct tests and perform security and quality controls May lead and co-ordinate multidisciplinary teams to develop Web site graphics, content, capacity and interactivity
Knowledge Requirement:
• A bachelor's degree, usually in computer science, communications or business
or Completion of a college program in computer science, network administration, graphic arts, Web design or business is required.
• Experience as a computer programmer or graphic designer is usually required.
• Fully bilingual English and Chinese
