Carleton University says it is working very closely with Ottawa Police to search for a suspect after a sexual assault in a campus building over the Labour Day long weekend.
A 23-year-old woman was beaten unconscious and sexually assaulted inside a science lab in the Steacie Building early Saturday morning.
Ottawa Police have received over 20 tips from the public to assist in their investigation.
The Ottawa Police Service Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Section is treating the case with the highest priority.
In a statement released on Monday, Carleton University said it is holding special presentations for residence students to make incoming students fully aware of safety procedures on campus.
Officials said additional safety sessions are being scheduled for students.
Carleton has tripled security patrols on campus and posted over 200 security flyers with information about the assault and an "eye-witness description" of the assailant.
Information about the incident is also being sent to students, faculty and staff through e-mail and the web.
The suspect is described as a white male, in his 20s, standing 5'8" to 5'9", with broad shoulders, wearing a blue hoodie sweatshirt, jeans, runners, and carrying a plastic bag from Macy's.
His head was bald, his face clean shaven, and he spoke English with no accent.
Police also say they believe the suspect had been drinking prior to the attack.
