There are some trues in it. All 涡轮增压系统 is run by exhaust gas just out of engine. The temperature is very high. It's usually worn out before the engine. Some machincal call it "3BP" (triple boat payment) because it makes lot of money for them.

It all depends on how you are driving your car, I own a 1.8T Jetta, so far my turbo is showing good compressions and my is at 125,000km +. The 1.8T engine is one of the strongest engines that VW made, it held up to over 30 PSI at the turbo without problems, and thats why I chosen to buy that car. I believe my turbo will last past 150,000 then I will change it into a bigger one for more speed. The only problem on the 1.8T is the DV, and Coilpack. You can get the updated version of the DV from the dealer for $45, its a 10min install and you can do it your self. The coilpack is around $100 for all 4 of them, but mine haven't shown a sign of popping lose, it only comes lose when you are racing the car very hard, and I mean, VERY HARD. I know my car and I do work on my car and others, it is a small turbo, but its not as bad as you think. plus a new one is under $300.
 
有问题通常也没十万公里那么夸张.就算按传说中的国内的油没那么好,国产的1.8TVW和AUDI,连A6这么重的,十几万公里照样敖敖的好跑.
