The New York Times online is no longer charging a fee to access the majority of its online content at NYTimes.com. Access to articles by columnists and the newspaper archives were formerly only accessible through TimesSelect, but are now available for free for everyone. There will be lingering fees to access certain material from the period of 1923 to 1986, but the public domain portion of the archives from 1851-1922 and all of the archives from 1987 to the present are available without charge.
