Just for your information, the policy of 2000 is : only you have more than one year driving experience (say, a Chinese driver license was issued one year ago), could you take G2 road test just after G1 written test. Otherwise, you have to wait for the one-year being reached. But, I'm not sure if the policy has changed since 2000.
It's still strongly recommended to take a Driving Course locally to reduce the later insurance premium ($30 off per month averagely) even you have more than 2 years driving experience in China.
So, I couldn't see any benefit from getting a driving license in China just as one kind of immigration preparation.
