We've got a hot one here! Dell.ca has a flexible Inspiron 530 system featuring Intel processors and starts at $309. This system can be had in a couple of configurations that really give you good bang for your buck.

The basic Inspiron 530 configuration for $309, after you manually remove the 19" LCD monitor will give you the following:
  • Intel Pentium dual-core processor E2180 (1MB L2 Cache, 2.00GHz) (upgradeable to a Core 2 Duo E6550 for $90)
  • Windows Vista Home Basic
  • 1GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz - 2DIMMs
  • 160GB Serial ATA Hard Drive (7200RPM)
  • Integrated 7.1 Channel Audio
  • Integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 3100
  • 16X DVD+/-RW Drive
  • Microsoft Works 8. DOES NOT INCLUDE MS WORD
  • 1 Year Next Business Day Onsite/In Home Service and Tech Support
  • Dell USB Keyboard, optical mouse
In its basic configuration with no monitor, this is a definite crowd pleaser. The Intel E2180 is highly competitive with the X2 4400+ processor from AMD (as seen in a $309 Inspiron 531 system last week), besting it in many applications. Still, if you want an impressive bump in processing power, just select the E6550 processor upgrade for $90. The total will then be $399, which is a excellent price for the system. Bought separately, the E6550 usually costs at least $170, so in effect, all of the other hardware and software in the configuration end up costing you just $229! Whichever configuration you choose, you might want to consider Microsoft Works Plus 2008 for $30 to cover a good range of basic productivity needs. For our tastes, the $399 E6650 comes out ahead value wise, but you can't go wrong with either configuration at the offered prices.
