问个联邦政府IT考试的事

上个月申请了一个联邦政府的职位，刚收到回信，说是要先参加Information Technology Competency written examination。各位大虾，有谁考过，能否分享一下到底考些什么东东?

It is the IT position in CCRA. General speaking, how does it look like? What kind of questions it cover?

IT Competency Written Test is about your writing ability in English/French.
It usually give out an scenerio, and ask candidate to write a memo, or letter to express the solution.
It grades based on grammer, spelling, flow and formatting of the test you are writing.

Senerio could be
1) A report of assessing your team's performance

Really? I thought they were pure technical questions to test the knowledge and skill of certain programming language or network protocols. Then it is quite interesting to test English writting skills. Probably people with the technical writting background will get better scroes.

Could you be specific? What kind test will one get if one's career matches the positions like Java programming and etc?

CRA Competency is a general evaluation methods to be fair to all candidate. If the applicants are overwheming, and need a way to screen in candidates that have better abilities in certain areas. Written exam is one way of evaluation, and does not serve as and indication of profile matching. If profile does not match job description, you will not even be invited for examination.

If it is for CRA IT job, the writing test may also vary for different positions and/or Branches/Divisions.
It should cover, generally speaking, several topics such as:
IT knowledge which is related to the job you applied. for examples, programmer, DB management, distribute network, TAX applications maintenance, Hardware support etc.
Customers services which most IT persons should deal with
Team work
Analytic thinking
Initiation
etc.
The test usually gives you some senerios like dkwan mentioned and you give your best answer. HR will evaluate your abilities if you fit the position.

考过了，但考得太差，50%的对错，没有到70%的合格率。

有点象证书考试，覆盖面比较广，遇到不少中国同胞，估计都比我考得好，有拿到面试的说一声哈,也让我彻底放弃幻想。

Good luck next time. I guess you applied cs-03 position. It is even hard for some English people. They ask to acquire 89/112...

Try CS-02 position and it is easier for you...
