i had same problem with Vista..spent a long time try fix but still could connect to internet..but i did get ip address and can ping other computer ..

hi, cable4sale, if you can ping other computer in your LAN, that means your computer got a valid IP from DHCP server; then can you ping your router?

need your help....

So you got a valid IP from your router through DHCP, you can ping your router and other computer in your LAN, but you could not browse Internet. Is it correct?

If so, can you ping www.google.ca from your computer?

correct..yes i can ping google..what is next?

Hi, Cable4sale, if you can ping google, then it basically means your Internet is working. Did you ping google by name or by IP? If you ping by name, then everything should be working. If you just can't browse Internet in IE, then it is an IE problem. It is a differnt problem than this thread, but I can try to help you :)

I would suggest you give Firefox a try. If Fox works, then you probably want to do something on your IE.

Hi, Cable4sale, please clarify your problem. The link you gave above is completely different problem. In that case, the user didn't get a valid DHCP IP, it only got a 169.xx.xx.xx, which was when the computer can't talk to your DHCP server(your router in this case) the default IP it assumes.

But you said you could get a valid IP(what was it just in case?) and you could even ping google. The user in that case could not go anywhere, not even ping google.

If you don't know the problem, that is a big problem. Both of us could end up wasting whole lot of time here and still going to nowhere. I would suggest you find out what is the problem first, then start from there :D

By the way, just for your reference(for the link you gave me), you probably don't want to hot swap cable on a cable modem. Always power off cable modem first and then plug new device into it.

i got so confused..

i got so confused..

Sounds you are :)

Here is what you need to do: identify what is your computer problem(i.e, did you get a valid IP or not? Is it a network problem or a IE problem? etc.), make it very clear, then start ask question.

Good luck!:)
