Fabrication Technician
On call position – no guarantee of hours
Determinate appointment– May 2008 to March 31, 2009
Band 4 - Hourly rate: $23.05 to $27.11
Unionized position – P.S.A.C.

Your Challenge:
The Technical Services Division is currently looking for an individual who, under the leadership of the Fabrication Supervisor, will be responsible to fabricate and maintain specialized containers for the transportation and/or storage of works of art as well as display components and furniture for exhibitions (display cases, platforms, benches, etc.) You will also assist the Finishing, Packing and/or Installation Technicians as required. Services are provided in support of on-site and traveling exhibitions, the permanent collection installations, loans, acquisitions and storage.
REQUIREMENTS:
As the ideal candidate you have:
· Completed a post-secondary program in Museum Technology or equivalent;
· Workshop experience in the fabrication of containers and crates for works of art in all media and sizes;
· Experience in handling works of art, manually and using handling equipment;
· Knowledge of conservation standards, finishing and construction techniques for crates, display components and furniture for exhibitions;
· Ability to read design plans and drawings;
· Excellent interpersonal skills in a team environment;
· Initiative, thoroughness, maturity and good judgment.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS/COMMENTS:
Knowledge of English.
The position requires the ability to manually lift and safelymove objects weighing in excess of 45 kg.
The position requires a valid driver’s license. Driving record in good standing (on going requirement).
Condition of employment: Enhanced reliability check. This factor is not used at the pre-selection stage.
