Here's a very good mid-sized notebook offering from Dell.ca: the newly released Vostro 1510 laptop with a Core 2 Duo Processor and more for $599. Here's what the system is equipped with:

You will need to manually select the T6570 processor upgrade and the WXGA+ (1440x900) screen upgrade ($50 each). It's also worthwhile to select the $0 RAM upgrade that will give you a single 1GB DIMM instead of two 512MB DIMMs. This laptop isn't a bad deal in its base configuration for $499 either, but we think the upgrades suggested above are extremely worthwhile. Other upgrades to consider include the Touchpad with UPEK Fingerprint Reader for $35 and Microsoft Works Plus 2008 (including Works 9 and Word 2003) for $30. You can also choose Microsoft Works 9 (no MS Word) for $0.
