Don't go to 大岛, it is boring. Buy a day trip to茂宜 and spend the rest of time in 欧胡. In 欧胡, stay in a hotel close to Waikiki beach, go to Hanauma Bay and Pearl harbor by bus, the biggest shopping mall Ala Moana is within walking distance. Don't go to Diamond head, it is a small, ugly hill. Rent a car for one day to go to the north part of 欧胡.

I went to see the craters on the big island during the daytime, not impressed. I went to see Grand Canyon in Arizona, not impressed.
You mean the snorkeling sites on the big island are not better than the one in Hanauma Bay. So why bother to stay on Big island? Most of the first time visitors stay in Oahu, don't you know that???

If you think 20 minutes walk is too much, that is only your opinion and what do you think about one day walk (shopping) in the shopping mall if 20 minutes walk is too much? If you go to that shopping mall by bus, you may have to wait 20 minutes for the bus. You can drive there but I wouldn't rent a car for a day if I only drive it for 10 minutes and leave it on the parking lot for the whole day.

That hotel is not the only hotel on Waikiki beach. There are several dozen hotels on Waikiki beach, it took me 15 minutes to walk from my hotel to Ala Moana. It took you 40 minutes to walk from Waikiki beach to Ala Moana coz you are a 70 years old granny who can't walk properly.
