Precautions may be needed for possible transit disruptions
Ottawa ? Today, Amalgamated Transport Union Local 279 is voting on the City’s latest contract offer. Should ATU members reject the offer, the negotiating team’s federally appointed mediator has ensured there will be another opportunity to return to the table, but there is a possibility that ATU workers will take job action that could disrupt regular transit scheduling.
These job actions could result in buses or the O-Train not arriving or departing on time.
The City would like residents to be aware that they may experience delays in service at any time, especially during peak traveling hours.
The City recommends the following:
・ Given the cold temperatures, it is advised that parents attempt to make other traveling arrangements for their children;
・ Seniors and others vulnerable to the winter cold should also make alternative traveling plans;
・ If you do take transit, dress warmly and keep moving;
・ Take the first bus that comes along traveling in your direction
・ Customers traveling on the Transitway are encouraged to use the 95 and 97;
・ Dial 560-1000 for schedule updates
・ Follow media reports for updates and on the impact on transit service.
While the City is hoping the members accept the contract offer, the safety of transit riders is the top priority. The City has been fair and reasonable during these negotiations.
It will make every effort to minimize disruptions of service and any inconvenience to riders and will keep the public informed of the latest developments through 741-4390 or octranspo.com
