according my experience, you do not have to close your bank accounts if you are leaving. just keep the minimum amount as required and do not do any trasaction. It will be ok. you had better to consult with the bank if you want to be sure about it
From my experience, there is a type of checking account with TD which you keep 1000 dollars minimum and you can do online banking and 10 ATM transactions (including 2 front desk transactions) with no monthly fee. I think Royal Bank has similar thing as well....check with the banks is your best bet~
