I already asked this question not too long ago

Besides passport, application form, 1 picture (took it myself with a white background, printed it 2X2 at shoppers drug mart), return air ticket, fee (cash only), may be hotel reservation if you are not staying with relatives (they just need some sort of address), also very important - I was asked for my last Chinese visa, which was on my old passport that I didn't bring with me, but they did have a record of it there, so to be safe, bring your old passport if the last Chinese visa was on there.

I only got 20 days, so it's still quite tight.
