Volunteer Placement Description
Title: Take Charge of Your Lifestyle volunteer
Report: On-site – PHN from Multi-Cultural Health Program
Program: Take Charge of Your Lifestyle presentation
Duties*
1. Prepare the night before to review presentation notes
2. Deliver presentation at requested site
3. Greet participants.
4. Deliver presentation
5. Answer questions that may arise.
6. Refer medical questions to Public Health Nurse or refer to family doctor
7. Ask participants to complete evaluations and return in the box.
Requirements / Skills
1. Interest in Chronic Disease Prevention messages heart Disease, Diabetes, Cancer
2. Ability to communicate well and skills in public speaking.
3. Sensitive to the needs of low income women
Hours /Time: Maximum time per presentation 3 hours
Training include:
1. Volunteer Orientation (3 half mornings) which includes:
a) orientation to the Health Department
b) review of volunteer policies
2. Specific training which includes:
a) Chronic Disease Prevention messages Heart disease, Diabetes, Cancer
b) Presentation guidelines
c) Wrap up:-volunteer will give a presentation
* Each presentation site is different. Volunteers will be given opportunities to sign up for presentations. It will be expected that the volunteer will give a minimum of 3 presentations per year. Volunteers need to attend 2 update sessions per year.
