POSITION: TECHNICAL SUPPORT ANALYST III (UNIX) (Regular Full-Time)

POSITION SUMMARY: Reporting to the Manager, Server Management, the incumbent will act as the key senior technical UNIX resource to Information Services and the Canadian Blood Services as a whole. Supports and maintains the day-to-day operations of NT/Unix hardware/software, CBS’s Wide and Local Area Networks (WAN/LAN). Provides experience and specialization in highly technical aspects of systems hardware/software/connectivity in Canadian Blood Services.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provides technical expertise and makes recommendations concerning software acquisitions, systems administration procedures, back-up solutions and disaster recovery planning in order to ensure stability of mission critical applications running from UNIX (e.g. MAK Progressa and FPMS);
• Provides third/fourth level support for UNIX/NT systems throughout Canadian Blood Services. This includes designing and implementing standards, supporting UNIX and NT hardware/software and administering CBS’network;
• Maintains and upgrades UNIX/NT hardware and software;
• Researches, designs, and implements systems for Canadian Blood Services that enhance operations
• Provides network and systems training on new or existing applications/systems; and
• Monitors and optimizes systems performance.
QUALIFICATIONS: Post secondary level education in a relevant discipline from a recognized academic institution is required. Completion of the MCSE certification or Certified UNIX Administration is preferred. At least four to six years of experience in a third\fourth technical support role including help desk, training, course development and application development; four years of which involve UNIX support. Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Unix and intermediate knowledge of NT Workstation and NT Server is essential. Familiarity with Lotus Notes and Domino server would be an asset.
