OC Transpo workers will go back to work if they reach the point when they cannot pay the bills: I think the OC Tranpo union and workers control the situation more than our mayor does.
The Nortellers: I guess a decent percentage of Nortellers at age 45 and above may have paid off their mortgage? also a group of them have a wife or husband working in the government or other companies? So in these cases they will not lose their house. But there must be quite a few Nortellers who are single bread earners with wife staying at home... things could be really bad for them....... That's why I am the firm believer that especially for first generation immigrants, both husband and wife should go out to work. For the local people, even if they drop out of Nortel, they could find a way out much more easily than us.
A funny thing: About 1 year ago I took a bus and the driver told me that he was laid off from Nortel after worked there for about 5 years and then he decided to be a bus driver. And everyday he drives a bus passing the Carling campus of Nortel. Mmmm, I wonder what he feels right now......
