Federal Labour Minister Rona Ambrose says she is prepared to introduce back to work legislation that would put an end to a public transit strike that's lasted 50 days in the nation's capital.
Ambrose said back to work legislation is necessary because both sides are too far apart.
She says she is reversing a previous decision not to intervene in the public transit strike because talks are not moving any closer to a resolution.
The federal government will need the co-operation of the opposition parties in order to get the legislation moved through.
Liberal MP Mauril Bélanger, who represents Ottawa-Vanier, says the situation is desperate and stood in the House of Commons Wednesday to demand an emergency debate on the issue, which is scheduled to take place Thursday night.
The developments on Parliament Hill come as the Canada Industrial Relations Board ruled Wednesday morning that OC Transpo is not an essential service and doesn't pose a direct threat to the public's health and safety.

Even if they decide to go back to work today, it will take at least a week to get all the buses ready to run. Since most had been idle for over 50 days now, the batteries, motor old, freezer and engines in a lot of the buses will not work.

I really hope the strike will last another four months, as this will break the record set by Ouebec city bus drivers, which lasted about 6 months in 1970s. As the capital of Canada, Ottawa should set and maintain a record. Therefore, I strongly support both sides to stand on their grounds.

Once the government passed the legislation to order the union to back to work, everything will maintain as it was before the strike. The union will not be able to go on strike for at least 1 (or 2 years don't remember clearly) year.

NB~

The scheduling issue is one way or another related to the money. The senior drivers could make over $40,000 per year from overtime above their salary since they have power to select their favor route and time, but other drivers who have no power were only select left over bus routes and times. Unfortuately, they were washed head by senior drivers. Tax payers have to pay what they own.

Do not listen to what they said they want respect and dignit.
