I quite understand your current feeling, since I have similar experience, don't worry too much.
1. Don't contact insurance company for this minor thing, first you might have deduction( 300 bucks or 500 bucks), secondly, I believe you don't want to see a raise of your insurance payment next year, just because the insurance company pay a bill of tens of bucks.
2.See whether the metal was hurt, it's possible that only the surface wax was scratched. In that case, you only need to sand around and wax the area again ( it's better to do it after spring, but it's your call)
3. If it's really some layer under wax was scratched, you just need to buy a small bottle of touchup paint( write down the paint code of your car and take it to your dealer's customer service, you can buy one at around 6 bucks), use the touchup to repaint the scratched area, if you do that carefully, I assure you that you can't tell any difference if you stand farther than 3 feets from your car.
4. If you still have questions, I suggest you go to library and you can find quite a few books on how to repair and maitain cars, or else, you can email me at
zhiming_cao@hotmail.com
5. Take it easy, though everyone wish his car will shine forever, you'll find that more and more scratches on your car, that just can't be avoided.
Good luck!
