三个齿的那种耙子挺好用的. 把土刨松,在把草钩出来.

You can try to rent a gas power garden tiller. After use it turn soil, try to remove old roots as much as you can.

pesticide is banned in ontario starting this year. We lost a usauful tool.

当然应该用铁锹了，而且翻的越深，效果就更好。平整后，重新植草皮，效果非常好，我前年就这么做的。如果只做前院，一个凉快的周末就完活了。

Don't use 'Top Soil', the quality is out of control.
My front yard was ok. After I spreaded 10 bags of HomeDepot Top Soil in spring, then, there are weeds every where now.

Sorry to hear that. I bought dozens of bags of Top Soil (not the cheapest brand) from WalMart each year and didn't see any weed from the soil.

But my neighbour got lots of weeds from the top soil they bought from HD too.
