有人转行做软件QA的吗？

我以前做开发的，刚刚被LAYOFF。感觉搞开发太累，还老要学新东西，不然就落后了，总有危机感。听说做QA简单些，还稳定，是吗？有经验的前辈能不能谈谈看法。

还有，在MONTREAL的网站上看到一个培训广告：

QA is not simple, but it is very tedious

If you plan to spent 8 hours in a very tedious way. Then go for it. I worked for QA before and never want to do it again. You needn't go to any training with development background, (unless you did not do any functional/unit testing, I assume this is not case for all developers).

you probably need training on perfermance testing with special tools, if yes, be aware the market is not big.

说实在的，往40去的人了，每天和年轻人比学新东西还真有点害怕。想象一下，现在高中生们整天接触的东西你读硕士时都还没听说过，自己的竞争力在哪里啊？！

我不是做这行的，略知一二，很可能是班门弄斧了。

我想，如果你想转一下专业，做QA/QE，像你这个背景，应该说很容易了。看看AC是否有这方面的课程。主要是测试程序(testing process, 那些是手工测，那些方面可以automation测）、计划（test plan)和测试例(test scenarios/cases)、测试的种类（unit/system verification test, feature/functional verificaiton test, defect verification test, etc.)。当然，还有测试结果的评估(evaluation and verification)等。如果有其他文种的版本，还有translation verification test。

开发和测试，同等重要。正规的软件公司，各个组的人员，是按比例设职位的。

Like Development, QA is also subject to outsourcing and QAs are very easy to replace with so many local candidates without any CS degrees. And learning curve is very short unless you are testing very specific industry such as telecom, networks where specific knowledge are mandatroy. For developers, my suggestion is to be careful for the switch. When I switched back, it was a little struggle for the first two months.

if you are female, you might enjoy the tedious, routine, less challenging work, but the workload could be heavy as you might need to repeat 10 of 12 steps to get the extra 2 steps many times.

Please don't think development skills are non-sustainable as the core of all new technologies are built upon previous versions. Common architecture and design patterns did not change much.

Frankly speaking, switching to QA may not be a good idea.
You may try the domain of admin, however.

以我在不同公司的经历，真正合格的软件QA/QC非常缺乏。合格的QA除了需要一定的testing技能之外还得有非常敏锐的洞察力，严谨的逻辑思维和相当的domain knowledge。个人觉得QA是比较有前途的一个行业，可惜很多公司都不重视testing，感觉像我10几年前刚入行时候得想法。

A lot of compaies think that QA can be easily replaced with anyone who has a course or two. In fact it is not true. I believe that it is the same error that happened in late 90s, when everyone started programming after having a java training. That was so call "program once, and debug everywhere".
Today QAs are not testing software by clicking mouse to actually run applications, but most of the time (more than 60%) spend on writing automation scripts to test software (components). If a company has its QAs test their software with last century technology, I am 100% sure that they don't produce good quality with affordable cost.
