French Immersion is a challenge on top of regular program.
To make a decision on dropping off or continuing in FI, it really depends on whether your child can handle the challenge or not.
If your child has no problem to develop his/her potentiality in FI, this extra language/culture is for sure an asset for his/her future life.
This is only my thought.
Having the ability to another national language is always a plus. I personally know it helps my children finding summer jobs because they also speak French, retail stores like people who could command both languages. And it is definitely an advantage getting government jobs in later life.
A lot of Chinese families think their son/daughter will beome a doctor so knowing French is useless. Well, in reality, the % for that to happen is extremely low.
If you children is now in FI, try your best to keep them there (if they enjoy it). A lot of my children's friends said they regretted dropping out of the program.
Also, don't let anyone tell you FI is useless. People who said that normally are people who are jealous because their children are not in it. In fact, it was a big surprise to me that it is a majority of my Francopones friends who said that, and I really don't know why.
All my children attended one of the schools (not always the same because some of the schools like the Merivale Public school was closed a few years back), and since I have experience in all of them )), I would say they are all decent school with good teachers and parents' councils.
My son attended Merivale High and my daughter in SRB, and they have no problem going to universities.
Of course, as I mentioned in some of the other posts in this forum, it is always important for you to talk to the school officials and parents' councils to find out what is best for your children as my situation (such as child care and extracurricular activities) might not apply to you. Form example, my neighbor prefers to send their children to the private school.
