一般报税用不着什么Quick Tax吧,除非比较复杂的。
也就是图个方便。不过今年有点犯愁(copied from Futureshop customer reviews on QuickTax):
Expected more from Intuit, 2/7/2003
Reviewer: Galin D, Toronto
I have some experience with Intuit software, namely Quicken 2002 and was very content with their product. This year I decided to buy the QuickTax Suite combo of Quicken XG and QuickTax platinum. For a start, the QuickTax install failed (bad RPC call or something), all my attempts to uninstall it cleanly failed, and it wouldn't reinstall as it pretends to be "clever" and checks the Windows registry for clues. Had to go and manually clean my registry from QuickTax. Activation went flawless but I found some discrepencies between the help and the actual product. Ever tried to remove imported data from QuickTax? Somehow, the checkbox supposed to be in the Import panel is missing (but nicely described in the help). Also, they made a lot of effort to provide all necessary tax forms but missed some along the way. In general, if the price was lower I would get this software as it speeds up the tax return preparation a lot. However, for this price with that many bugs I decided to take it back to the store. I tried contacting customer support and I couldn't get through - and, imagine, I had only 3 FREE questions. What about complaints? Where can I complain about their software? They are in this business for years and still can't make a complete product. I wouldn't recommend upgrading from Quicken 2002 to QuickenXG either - the interface isn't really better and they introduced some new bugs.
High Cost Support and Product BUGS, 2/7/2003

QuickTax has been my tax preparer for years. UNFORTUNEATELY they have become too big for the average person and have become USER UNFRIENDLY. Microsoft has somehow weaseled into the program. The user HELP will only work if you have IE installed. IE is a bad browser embedded in Windows. BUT if you can remove portions of IE , Your PC will increase in speed. This is due to the BLOATED CODE and memory hog of IE. DO YOU EXPECT SUPPORT from INTUIT CANADA ? YES, you paid for it, BUT support is ONLY provided by paying for a call to Edmonton ! I called support and was told the wait was 45 to 60 minutes !!! ON HOLD !!! This Company does not deserve our business. Find another that is less aggressively demanding ! I am searching myself. MY RATING IS "ZERO"
Good product, questionable practice, 1/29/2003

I have had good experience from using the software in the past. However, their recent secret software code really change my heart. I had the same problem with the activation code, except the tech service person told me that I must have tried to download an illegal copy from the net?! I bought the damp thing brand new, for God sake!! My friend told me that if I had use certain MP3 versions or had downloaded musics from certain sites, then the protection code (a.k.a virus) might mistaken it as illegal downloaded copies. Check your Task Manager (Window OS), you might find the protection code occupying a chunk of RAM and CPU resource, like a leech, draining the PC's resources!!
Doesn't Quick Tax Learn, 1/24/2003
Reviewer: Mike L, Calgary
Buyer beware... I have been using QuickTax for the last 5 years. Last year, I was surprise to learn that they limited the number of users. Now this year, I learn that they install software beyond just filing taxes. This is surely unreasonable especially since they don't advertise the added feature on the box so that customers can make an inform decision to buy. If QuickTax? Executives can? even tell customer what is install on a computer system beyond what is needed to file then why package it with they software. I for one surely want to know what is install and what will be running on my computer when I put the install CD in. What is in store next year, software that monitors my keystrokes just to see that I only file taxes on my computer?
Don't upgrade your OS, 1/20/2003
Reviewer: Chris, Thunder Bay, Ontario
I have been a faithful Quicktax user for 4 years now. The software itself is very userfriendly and it definitely saves A LOT of time from doing your taxes. However like many others, I have run into a serious problem. My hard drive crashed a few months ago, forcing me to purchase a new one and reinstall my entire OS from cgratch. Guess what? My copy of Quicktax 2001 (and from what I understand QTax 2002 works the same way) no longer works because my other version has been previously registered to my old hard drive (currently collecting dust). I understand that Intuit wants to prevent illegal usage of their program but this has gone too far. More safety methods for this type of situation (ie. a toll free number to call) should have been implemented. Summary: Awesome software, but it loses a point for it's non-transferability and very poor customer support.
Warning! C-Dilla, 1/20/2003
Reviewer: Tom S, Toronto
Intuit have added anti copy program called C-Dilla from Macrovision to their software, Google c-dilla to find out more... It requirs activation like windows xp, and will run at all times your computer is on. If you remove quicktax C-Dilla is not removed and will keep stealing your CPU time. Get a different Tax program this year!
QuickTax Contains Secret Virus Like Code, 1/20/2003
Reviewer: Susquatch, Canada
Users all over North America are upset to discover that Intuit's Tax Software contains a deliberate Secret virus like program called C-Dilla. C-Dilla secretly installs on your HardDrive. Apparently, QuickTax will not work without C-Dilla installed. C-Dilla monitors your CD drive and tries to prevent you from copying CDs that are copywrited including those you legitimately own. This interferes with your right to make backups or Music Collections of software and music you own. When QuickTax is removed, C-Dilla remains. QuickTax also requires activation which means you won't be able to use it in the future to review past tax claims. Intuit claims it needs to take this action to protect themselves against piracy. Intuit are the real pirates. Don't take my word for it, do a web search on "Intuit C-Dilla" and see for yourself. Buy a competitive product instead.
Don't Buy, 1/17/2003
Reviewer: djeans, St. John's, NF
I bought this package last year like the 5 years before and ran into this activation problem. I have purchased a new computer, and i have upgrade to Win XP as well and I can't get at my taxes now. This is unacceptable considering I purchased this software and now I can't use it. I have also heard of the US version (called TurboTax there) which is also made by Intuit has a couple programs that are always running in your system memory, eating up your resources. I would advise everyone to stay away from this product. I'll go back to handwriting mine before i buy this again.
Problems with activation, 1/6/2003
Reviewer: Vim, Toronto, ON
Just bought this software yesterday. I installed it on my computer and activated it. It just happened so that right after installation I had to update OS on my system. Guess what - after that I had to reinstall QuickTax but could not activate it. Message - this software is already used. No big deal - I thought I just will have to call them. Wrong. First of all - there is no phone number to call. Try to find one on their website before calling! Just try. Finally I found phone for tech support - of course it was long distance call. These guys told me that just "Activation department" can help me. They gave me tool free number. I called them Friday night - they do not work. Called them Saturday - they do not work. They have a message - call back during business hours. But I work myself during business hours - I am at work, not at home. I am not against activation - Microsoft has activation for XP, but you can call them 24 hours a day - they will help. I am against Intuit treats me. Finally went to Futureshop and they without any problems exchanged QuickTax. Moral - no more software from Intuit, but I really liked the way Futureshop handled my case - no questions, exchanged on the spot. Recommendation - stay away from this software if you expect to do any changes to your computer - you'll have major headace with new introduced activation feature. Otherwise, it is not like you have many choices. Of course, next year I'll buy their competitor software....

I have used Quicktax Standard for 6 years and find it to be an excellent product. Even if you have very simple returns, it is worth purchasing for the time saved when you don't have to fill out any forms or do any calculations. Just enter the info off your tax receipts and you are done! As my returns have become more complicated, I have appreciated the product even more because all the forms that I need are immediately available, filled out and calculated as I enter the information. It also makes web filing easy which means I don't have to print any forms or send anything in and I get my tax return in about 2-3 weeks. I would highly recommend it to everyone.
