You are talking about a furnace with two stage burner which would vary the fire and a variable speed blower which change the air moving speed. It is the top model.There are nice to have, but unless you are really picky about the temperature in your house and you want to live in that house forever. I wouldn't go that way. At 90 to 92 percent efficient furnace with single stage burner and AC motor is all you need, and could be most reliable, may only cost 2500 to 3000 dollar.

I bought Lennox high efficiency furnace (94% efficiency) and Air Condition in Toronto in the end of Jan. 2009. The list price was $8300, but the company knock out $1,000 for the business (my furnace broke down then, so there was no time for shopping around).
I will be able to get $1000 allowance for furnace (500 from fed and 500 from Ontario); $400 for AC (200+200) after the second evaluation; plus 15% on $6300=$945 for the tax deduction next year; and the following rebates have been received already:
$550 rebate from Hydro Ontario, $165 from Enbridge;

So the net cost for both Furnace and AC is

7300-(1400+550+165+945)=7300-3060=$4,240 .

Since installed in the end of Jan., my gas bill saved over $100 each month for Feb. and Mar.

This was the case in the Toronto area. LZ may shop around to get a good deal. Good luck!

To get the government energy grant, the new furnance must have at least 92% efficiency. With 92% efficency new furnance, you'll recieve $375x2=$750 from two level goverments. With 92% and a DC motor, you'll get $625x2=$1250; with 94% AFUE and a DC motor, the refund will be $650x2=$1300. See the government webpage below.... They just increased the grant by 25%!

American Standard (top of the line, 95%, variable speed motor, but not stainlesssteel), 10 yr warranty
4-ton, a bit less than 4000 before tax
Don't take their financing.
