Cars under $10,000 even before freight and taxes used to be a rarity in Canada but as the economy slows down automakers are aggressively discounting across the board. Lately GM has been advertising a number of cars under $10,000 for Ontario:

• 2009 Chevrolet Aveo LS 5-door - $8,995 (pictured)
• 2009 Chevrolet Aveo Sedan LS - $9,195
• 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt Coupe LS - $9,995 (including loyalty bonus for current GM owners only)
• 2009 G3 Wave 5-door - $8,995
• 2009 G3 Wave Sedan - $9,445

The prices quoted above is for Ontario but you can easily check prices in your area by punching in your postal code on the GM homepage under 'Current Offers' on the bottom right. All the prices are cash purchase prices and don't include freight, licensing, or taxes as with most advertised auto prices.

A quick check for BC has the Aveo and Wave available at $10,998 with the same two cars going for $8,999 in Quebec. Interesting thing about Quebec is that the Colbalt Coupe and Sedan are both only $9,999 without a loyalty bonus requirement. In short, check your local area for the current price.
