Job Description:
The Ottawa Chinese Community Service Centre invites you to join the ranks of our volunteers. Our services target the Chinese immigrant seniors, families, young people and job seekers.
Settlement Services need ESL Social Group Instructors for Youth, Adult, and Senior classes; Computer ABC Instructors; Mandarin Pin Yin Instructors; Homework Club Instructors; Youth Summer Camp Assistants; an Event Coordinator (Youth/Family/Senior); Special Interest Class Instructors for Parents, Child Care Assistants.
Employment Services needs Employment Mentors, Business Start-up Mentors, Job Search Workshop Assistant, and an Administrative Assistant.
Engaging Immigrant Seniors Program needs Phone Greeting Volunteers, Driving Volunteers, Home Visiting Volunteers, and Volunteer Events Coordinators.

Settlement Services
1. ESL Social Group Instructors: (Youth/Adult/ Senior)
We are looking for ESL Social Group Instructors for Youth, Adult, and Senior Chinese immigrants. We need ESL Social Group Volunteer Instructors who is social and talkative and confident in leading a group of about 5-10 people. The purpose of the ESL Social Group is to help them practice conversation and make new friends.
2. Computer ABC Instructors (Seniors)
We are looking for Computer ABC Instructors for Chinese senior immigrants who don’t have computer knowledge. We need for the Computer Instructor who is confident in leading and teaching a group about 13 seniors to learn basic computer skills. You must have Mandarin and/or Cantonese language skills.
3. Mandarin Pin Yin Instructors (Seniors)
We are looking for a Mandarin Pin Yin Instructor for our Computer Class for Chinese senior immigrants who want to learn how to type Mandarin Pin Yin. The Mandarin Pin Yin Instructor needs to speak excellent Mandarin, have good knowledge of Mandarin Pin Yin and have good computer skills. We are looking for the Mandarin Pin Yin Instructor who is confident in leading and teaching a group of about 13 seniors to learn Mandarin Pin Yin typing skills.
4. Homework Club Instructors(Children/Youth/Mandarin Class)
We are looking for Homework Club Instructors for Chinese immigrant school-age children and youth to help them with their homework. We are looking for enthusiastic and dedicated Homework Club Volunteer Instructors who are available from 4:30-6:00pm. You do not have to be a teacher, but you must have coaching or teaching experience, and be interested in helping the children or youth learn and complete their homework.It also includes games playing and story telling activities.
5. Youth Summer Camp Assistants
We are looking for Youth Summer Camp Assistants for our Youth Summer Camp for Chinese Youth immigrants from July to August (4 weeks). We need creative, outgoing, and dedicated Youth Summer Camp Assistants. We need you to share your sport or art expertise. You need to have both English and Mandarin language skills, have experience serving youth, and be passionate in assisting the camp instructor.
6. Event Coordinators (Youth/Family/Seniors)
We are looking for Volunteer Events Coordinators for Chinese newcomers to help them understand Canadian culture through sports, social, cultural, and recreational activities or workshops. We need someone to assist with event or workshop ideas, coordination, decorating, food preparations, setting up tables, etc.
7. Special Interest Class Instructors for Parents
We are looking for Special Interest Class Instructors for our Chinese immigrant parents, which will take place when their child is attending our free child care activities and services. We need the Special Interest Class Instructors who has special talents in arts, crafts or recreation, and must be confident in leading and teaching a small group of parents.
8. Child Care Assistants
We are looking for Child Care Assistants. We need the Child Care Assistants to assist the teacher with games, arts and crafts, and other activities in the Centre. We need the Child Care Assistant who has a loving, friendly, and patient personality, has experience with children, and enjoys being with children.
Employment Services
1. Employment Mentor (IT, Health Care, Government and Finance background preferred)
We are looking for Employment Mentors for our Mentorship Program for internationally trained professionals. We need the Employment Volunteer Mentor to engage in a mentoring partnership with internationally trained professionals from similar professional backgrounds, provide coaching, emotional support, and professional advice on a one-to-one basis during their job search.
2. Business Start-up Mentors
We are looking for someone who has experience in starting up a business and who is familiar with the business environment and related policies and regulations in Ottawa. Background and knowledge in legal, financial, and accounting services is considered an asset.
3. Job Search Workshop Assistant
We are looking for someone with strong presentation and facilitation skills in both English and Mandarin who is available on Saturdays.
4. Administrative Assistant
We are looking for someone with strong office administration skills who is proficient in both oral and written English and Mandarin.

Engaging Immigrant Seniors Program (EISP)
1. Phone Greeting Volunteer
-There are some Chinese seniors in Ottawa who live alone at home. They need someone who can regularly check on them by phone.
2. Driving Volunteer
-Offer transportation and/or assistance at medical appointments for Chinese seniors.
3. Interpreter for Seniors
-Interpreter for senior‘s medical or other important appointments
4. Home Visiting Volunteer
-Monthly friendly home visits for frail or isolated Chinese seniors.
5. Volunteer Events Coordinator (Senior Program)
-Assist with organizing and coordinating various events and activities for Chinese seniors.
