I was wondering if people here use T&G panel as the alternative of drywalls.

I am going to start my basement DIY project soon:blowzy:, and currently I am debating meself with these two materials for the walls.

Your suggestions would be appreciated.

for me is that, if it is drywall by any chances I cut it open. I am sure I could fix the hole without leave anything visiable. I am not sure it is the case of T&G panel .

科普一下,啥是T&G Panel啊?tongue and groove?

I have not thought about repairing yet.

The reason I want to use T&G is because most project will be done by one person (aka meself). T&G is easy to install compared with drywall install. Besides, no taping, no muding and no sanding...and so far i have no idea how to transport 4' by 8' drywalls to my basement without taking out the basement windows...

Cons are, it doesnot look nice compared with properly installed & painted drywalls, and it costs much...

I just had a contractor did the drywall installation for my basement. I think they did a good job. Price wise, I do not have any experience. Finished part is 500 sq. ft. with a 60 sq. ft. washroom, for drywall (material and labour) $3600.

what does $3600 include?

Framing, drywall, ceiling, painting, electirc and pluming?

T&G panel is indeed old-fashion. I will paint (not stain) it afterwards if I decide to go ahead with it. So it will make the cost more.

I have a strange staircase to the basement, I doubt 4' by 8' can smoothly goes in...in addition, i hate dust (sanding) and I was told muding is a tricky work...

How about using plywood to build the inside wall, then put fancy wall paper to cover it? I am thinking inovation way:blowzy: to build the basement, you guys may help me out here:)

Mudding and sanding are easy if you have right tools (a power sander). You can measure if 4x8 could be moved down to the inside of basement (I do not believe the height of your staircase would be shorter than 4 feet (you will move horizontally for sure)). Also plywood seems more expensive than drywall. My two cents.

my basement staircase has a 旋转, so that's why it causes me headache...

I checked the price, plywood in homedepot roughly $15.xx, drywall aorund $12.xx, cheapest P&G (pine) around $35 (all for 32 sq ft), MDF would cost more...

Basement的窗户应该不难卸下来吧?如果是那种塑料的窗户,往上一托就下来了。当然,如果你的窗户小于4尺就别想了。另外,Plywood钉墙上也太难看点了吧,也不平。
