ABBOTSFORD - A man is seriously hurt after a train crashed into his vehicle in Abbotsford.
Sgt. Marvin Fefchak of the Abbotsford police said the accident occurred at Baynes Street near 56th Avenue at about 6 p.m. on Saturday.
The damage was to the driver's side door of the Nissan Sentra, Fefchak said in an interview.
"It's a very rural area in the northwest corner of Abbotsford, almost at Langley," Fefchak said adding that there are very few homes in the area.
A man is lucky to be alive after his car ran into a train Saturday evening in rural Abbotsford.
He was driving along Baynes Street near 56th Avenue when the train hit his driver's side door around 5:45 p.m. that evening.
Skid marks from where the driver attempted to stop were visible on the road.
The driver was trapped and had to be freed from his vehicle by the jaws of life. He was taken to Royal Columbian Hospital immediately after and is in serious condition.
ABBOTSFORD (NEWS1130) - A man is in serious condition after his car was totalled by a train in Abbotsford. "A train has collided into the driver side of the door of a car. It appears to be, from what I am getting from the scene, a single male occupant who has been airlifted to RCH."
Callers tell us you can't even tell the make of the car because it is so badly damaged. The crossing at 56th Avenue does not have railway arms and the train belongs to Southern Rail.
As you come to a crossing, slow down, listen and look both ways before crossing the tracks.
