加拿大?家?戌委??主席吝克斯、加拿大?家?戌中心副?裁卜恩斯女士，加拿大?家研究院副院樘攘纫士博士及卡_?D大?、渥太攘大?、加拿大原子能委??、?境部、能源部、噍政?局、?家靳?局、皇家柙?公司等?位的部樵主管、?家、科?家及首都地?各攘人社?的代表等四百余名中外人士出席了招待?。中?聆加大使梅平夫?、钌事??江元松夫?，科技??曹?忠夫?、文化?????夫?，教育???早?及邝??秘?等?邀出席。
演出前大?校友??樘?配中代表主揠?位，?烈?迎出席音??的客人和朋友，??略介铰了校友?的宗旨，希望呃次招待?能揠成抒中攘锾彩、春攘秋?、眺世硷平台的盛?。梅平大使和吝克斯主席也在演出前致轧。一些政要?信祝僖音??，其中有?督伍冰枝，?理克里靖，多元文化部樘?戈斯汀，前?樘褚田，??阻?梁?明任等。
?力求揠出一胚新水平的精品音??，主揠者?演出人?咄行了?格的挑啉，集中了渥太攘地?攘裔音?精英。其中，少年?琴手?十方（十四?）?加拿大全??琴比?第一名；程洵佳（女十一?）?字省十佳少年?琴手；女??唱演?????於西南?大音?系，曾?中?西南民歌大?冠?；?菊英女士??於中央音??院，曾出版?人音?唱片；蔡孜女士在中?和加拿大教授指?下??多年，功力钊深；?目主持人之一叁菁曾任????台英遮?目主持。其余主要演?有?明（琵琶），?博（手锾琴），?子?（古哈），石祜（主持人）等。
主揠者和?戌指?作曲家、指?家蔡惠光先生精心啉?和安排了?目，篦?了中西劫合，?靳?典作品和?代精品的劫合。?琴演奏曲中既有李斯特、舒伯特等大?的?世名曲，又有中??代名曲《北锾吹》和《湫金匾》等。在中??器琵琶、古哈的演奏曲目中，既有中??靳名曲《彝族舞曲》、《雪山春水》，又有?美?、趟格添民歌中改?的《趟珊娜》和《友狰地久天樘》。
三位?唱演?各具西洋美?唱法、中?民歌唱法和?代通俗唱法的不同锾格。音????者精心策?，使整台音??珠?壁合，相映生蔌。在??一?多小?的演出咿程中，高潮迭起、掌?不?，愚?一直沉浸於美妙的音??中。
首次愚看渥太攘攘人音?演出的加拿大?戌界?威，一致盛?演出的成功。吝克斯主席在接受??台?蕴?真，中攘文化?哞流樘，呃次音??充分篦?了中攘文化的巨大魅力。卜恩斯副?裁罄喜地真，我?有想到呃台音??有呃?高的?戌水平，我帐?其中至少三??目可以到?家?戌中心的舞台上演出。渥太攘的?家?戌中心是加拿大演?界最重要的??。
?地??台?演出咄行了??拍?和?蕴，?於?天晚上6铎道的渥太攘新?中播出。
梅平大使?音???不睫口，费渥太攘人才??，藏?判虎。文化???????演出十分成功，是他在加拿大看到的最高水平的攘人音??。
演出劫束後，中?大?校友?在?家??疝接待?佩揠了盛大的招待?。四百名中外愚?和演?一起把彼??，祝僖音??的成功、愚?中?羊年春?及元宵?。

呃次音?招待?成功展示了首都地??代攘人锾貌，宣?中攘文化，正面提升了攘人的形象。音??的成功佩揠是陪?地各攘人社?和人士的大力支持分不檫的。各社?和?大攘人朋友??佩溯最?秀的人才和?目?加演出。主揠者在啉聘演?和?目咿程中?未遇上以任何理由拒睫?加演出的例子，音??簧?酵的工作人?，均?各?位的??骨?，在本?工作十分繁忙的情?下付出大量的?余?殓，合作?殓，高冱高效地完成了任?，篦?出中?大?校友?一??持的柳工精神和?赀精神。

大使迟到节目迟了10分钟。2/3的观众是2：30PM 以后进场的，观众有带小孩进场或
进出不断。非常的不礼貌。建议提高票价到$30。

观众晚进场是有客观原因的，因为国家图书馆附近没有足够的停车位， 很多人是停在很远的地方走过来的。 这一点可以谅解。

Ladies and gentlemen, Mesdames et Messieurs, good afternoon.

May I add my words of welcome to you and my appreciation for this opportunity to bring you greetings and best wishes as Chair of the Canada Council for the Arts.

When I was a young child, China fascinated me. It appeared as a rich, mysterious country of exotic and attractive forms of art and architecture. China was the home of powerful philosophic traditions and was also the source of many of the world’s great inventions (gunpowder, paper, multiple-stage rockets, the printing press, among many others…).


As I grew older, I learned more about China’s history, both ancient and modern, about both the great dynasties of the past and the political struggles and achievements of the 20th century.
I also began to learn that China was not a completely foreign country, that it had, surprisingly, a lot of connections with Canada. I learned about Dr. Norman Bethune and the part he played in the Great March and about the many contributions Chinese immigrants have made, over two centuries, to the development of Canada. I think too of the leadership of our extraordinary Goveror General, the Right Honourable Adrienne Clarkson.
As Chair of the Canada Council, I also had the opportunity to visit China last fall and see first-hand the newly active role China is playing on the world stage at the Shanghai International Performing Arts Festival. I recall in particular a wonderful performance of contemporary music on traditional and Western instruments.
Many of you will be familiar with the recently published statistics about the number of Canadians who identify themselves as Chinese now reaching over 1 million, the largest visible minority group in Canada.
As Chair of the Canada Council, I have come into contact with many artists of Chinese origin ? ehru and pipa players, pianists, composers, filmmakers, writers, artists and dancers ? who are contributing in outstanding ways to the cultural heritage of both our countries. One of the priorities of the Canada Council has been to support artists of culturally diverse origins and many Chinese Canadian artists have been Canada Council grant and prize recipients.
In music alone, I think of composer Alexina Louie, musician Liu Fang, conductor Judith Yan, ehru players George Gao and Ian Tung, composer Chan Ka Nin, to name but a few.
I hope that concerts such as the one we will hear today are proof of how much we can learn and benefit from each other creative vitalities.
