真的都差不多……
一般差别都感觉不太出来的。

most external harddrive seems to have 7200RPM, but the one I got only 5400RPM, looks I have to exchange. the sales, she said there are not different, just the brand!

one also has 8ms, while another has 160ms?

8mb buffer比起2mb倒是会有挺大差别的。

160ms应该是typo吧。

8mb suppose to be better, right?

guess it's a typo. How about RPM, does it matter?

Mind you the specs on Futureshop's website sometimes has mistakes in it. Should go to their manufacturer's website for actual specs.

Bah, the specs there doesn't make much sense.

I personally would go with the 8mb buffer one. 7200RPM is usually a little faster but producesmore heat.

Not a huge difference. But keep in mind IOmega is a much better reputed brand.

it's an external HDD.... it's gonna perform the same way regardless becuz of USB's limitations

The difference is minimal, it's almost like coke vs pepsi.

2.5 and 3.5 ? I am not even sure what they mean....

all I want is to have lots of storage and acceptable transfer speed and reliable too.

really? u sound like an expert

USB u're limited to no more than ~50MB/s, and that's 100% theoretical. In reality you'd be laughing if you got 24MB consistently.

any half-decent HDD these days would beat that speed if not double it

eg. hitachi 7200 1G hd (can't remember model), ~100MB/s

so like i said, you're better off saving a few bucks going with a 5200rpm HDD.

However, if you're going eSATA or firewire, the faster drives would perform faster. Otherwise your USB2.0 is the bottleneck

what 1784 was talking about is 2.5inch or 3.5inch. It's the size of the hd.

get a NAS with RAID 1 or 5 and hook up your PC/router/NAS with a GigE Switch.:p

Two hard drives have same Maximum Data Transfer Rate of 480Mb/s in their specs, which is determined by USB2.0.
