又环保又省钱的 Ottawa Green Bin 计划

Starting in September through to December 2009, green bins will be delivered to homes across the city. It’s the first step in launching Ottawa’s organic recycling program which takes your food scraps and other organic waste and transforms it into compost.

The second step is green bin collection – when you actually get to use your bin to collect and set out your household organic waste. Collection will start in January 2010, so check your collection calendar for your pick up dates.

Why?

Almost half of the residential waste Ottawa produces is made up of organics—things like food scraps, soiled paper or leaf and yard waste. But organic waste isn’t garbage—it’s a valuable resource. The City of Ottawa is asking residents to RETHINK garbage by participating in the Green Bin program.
With your green bin, you can make a real difference to the City and the environment. This new program can help:

• Extend the life of existing landfills by diverting almost half of the City’s waste to the composting program.
• Save taxpayers money. By extending the life of our landfills, we can delay sourcing and setting up new landfills – a very expensive proposition.
• Reduce the amount of greenhouse gases our landfills generate by removing organic waste.
• Turn waste into a usable product (compost) that enriches the earth instead of damaging it.

Green Bin Ottawa will help us feed the land, and not the landfill.

虽然知道今年秋季要开始，我还是在去年春天买了个堆肥箱放后院，我家扔给垃圾车的不回收类减少了50－60％ ！！！虽然俺家堆肥的成果不理想，现在寄希望于绿盒子，到明年一月就可以新得老得都交给市政去再统一被堆一堆，俺们也不烦肥出得咋样了

the only reason you are getting a green bin is so that they can collect garbage once every two weeks, it's a bad idea.

my garbage smell so bad sit in the summer for 1 week, can't imagine how I live with that sit in my garage for 2 weeks.

不可能是个又环保又省钱的计划。环保没有便宜的出路。

想想看，这前期投入是多少钱。以后的处理也绝对不便宜。就等着房地产税上涨吧。
