JOB DESCRIPTION


Position: Youths Settlement Counsellor


This position reports to: Manager, Client Services

Employment status: Employment Contract (35 hours/week)

Term: One year (replacement of maternity leave)

Responsibilities:
· Assess the needs of newcomers.
· Provide practical information and assistance to newcomers in accordance with assessment results.
· Provide one-on-one office interviews and telephone inquiries.
· Plan, promote and facilitate orientation and other topical workshops.
· Provide referrals to other service providers.
· Provide interpretation to facilitate newcomers’ access to services.
· Provide assistance to clients who experience difficulties accessing mainstream services.
· Provide short-term supportive counselling service to comers who experience difficulties in settlement and integration.
· Plan and implement outreach activities to reach out to newcomers who face barriers in accessing our services.
· Provide other appropriate support to newcomers to strengthen their ability to become self-sufficient.
· Organize and facilitate settlement, employment and job search workshops
· Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager of Client Services


Key Qualifications:
· Fluency in English, Cantonese and Mandarin is essential.
· Demonstrated sensitivity to the settlement and integration needs of newcomers, especially newcomer youths.
· Abilities to plan, organize and facilitate workshops, and small groups.
· Abilities to conduct and implement outreach activities.
· Good organization skills to set priorities, plan and meet deadlines.
· Ability to deal with confidential materials and matters.
· Good interpersonal skills.
· Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
· Ability to perform responsibilities with minimal supervision.
· Good keyboarding skills and ability to use English and Chinese word-processing software.
