A pickup truck slammed into stopped traffic on Bank St. in Leitrim Wednesday, sending a toddler and his parents to hospital with serious injuries.
Ottawa police closed the road between Blais Rd. and Findlay Creek Dr. for most of the day after the 7:30 a.m. chain-reaction collision involving four vehicles. it has since reopened for the evening rush hour.
According to police and paramedics, northbound traffic was stopped in the area when the Ford pickup rear-ended a car, pinning a 14-month-old boy in a car seat.
A bystander removed the unconscious boy from the wreck and paramedics managed to revive him and treat him for serious head injuries.
Paramedics also treated the boy's parents for serious head injuries. The 41-year-old man was in serious condition and the 31-year-old woman was in serious but stable condition.
Police said the conditions of the family members are considered non-life-threatening.
Paramedics treated four other people, including a pair of boys, ages 12 and five, for minor neck pain. A 30-year-old man was also treated for neck pain and a 45-year-old man was treated for facial injuries.
The pickup came to rest on the car. Collision investigators were still trying to determine what happened. No charges have been laid.
