I got a job offer from a company. The company asks me to sign the contract with an agency. I am not sure what employment status I have.
Anybody has such experience? In my case,
Am I an employee of the agency or a self-employed?
If agency does my payroll, does this mean the agency will pay half of my CPP contribution?
Will the agency pays for my EI?

No worry. You accumulate everything as usual.
Just you're an employee of that agency rather than the company you really work for.

You've already given the definition, "Contract with agency".

My understanding is this, the agency is the contractor to that company and you are a sub-contractor, or a contractor to the agency.

The agency would pay you as a contractor not as an employee. In other words, the agency will not pay anything for your CPP or EI.

Not a problem. If you sign contract with agency, you are technically employed by that agency. In general, the company or the government pays agency, and then agency pays you. The pay you recieved will be absolutely less than what the agency received frrom the company. The advantage for the company or the government hiring personel in this way is that they don't need to pay the benifits to you, therefore, saving money. The agency usually don't have any benifits at all. However, it is an opportunity for you to start working in the company or government. In this way, you get familar with the working environment, and subsequently, you have the chance to stay there as a employee once your manager like you and your contract with the agency is expired.

I have the same experience

There is one thing that is different: the agency could fire a person as you very easily. They could say 'please do not come on Monday', and then you are actually laid off.

确实是这样。HR公司的人,通知就立马走人。
