Canadian passport Chinese passport

After a couple of months, I will be eligible for applying for Canadian passport. I have been thinking about this day since the first day I came to Canada. But when it comes, I don't know my true feeling.

It seems so natural for us immigrants to get a Canadian passport. The advantage is obvious: easier to travel, can work in the States. But on the same day when we receive our Canadian passport, we lose our Chinese one. I hate this! stupid Chinese government policy.

I am a Chinese. too late to be a Canadian. Even regardless of feeling, regardless of culture background, only from benefit point of view, is Canadian passport worthy more compare with Chinese passport? China is a rapid growing country. Here Canada is cold both in weather and in economy. The States is at war under the stupid Bush.

Is there a way we can get a Canadian passport, and somehow keep our Chinese passport?

From my opinion, Passport is only a passport, it's only useful when you go foreign country or work somewhere. you are holding a Canadian passport does not mean you are not a Chinese no more. Even you hold your Canadian passport in China and walk on the stree, nobody will consider you are a Canadian! In an other word, nobody think you are a Canaidian even you are in Canada and have Canadian passport. People will still ask you... where are you come from, how long have you been here... stuff like that! don't you think so?

The only thing you need think right now is which passport is more useful for you! Don't have to consider you will be a Canadian or still a Chinese.

Totally agree with you that a passport is only a passport. I will always cheer for Chinese athletes at Olympic games no matter which country’s passport I hold. Olympic Hokey game: Canada beat Finland 2:1 tonight! Chinese won a silver and a bronze in skate!

If one chooses to live abroad, a Canadian passport probably is the best choice. However, if there is no political turmoil and Chinese economy keeps on track, many of us may chose to go back to China. I don’t know what kind of restrictions they have for people holding foreign passport in China. But is it wired that you have to apply for visa and work permit while you think you are at home?

诶--，加拿大这苦寒之地！

I never regret about my decision to come to Canada, probably because I had little to boast about while in China. It is always good to see the world outside, and now we have more choices in our life.

We are lucky to have a mild winter this year. Somebody must be worry now that we will not have enough snow for CSA ski trip.

Country is like your hometown: when you live there, you always complain about her; but after you left her, she is always in your dream.

好象华人如果想恢复中国国籍很容易，只是现在不会或极少有人这么做。将来你如果真想恢复，应该也是没问题的，决不会象你现在申请加拿大国籍这么难。别想那么多了，到时连中国使馆的人都会问你，你怎么还没入加拿大籍，是不是你有问题人家不批你！国人就是这么看人的，好象你能拿到就表示你过了一个能力测验似的。

That is very good point. At least I can pass the Chinese language test easily.
