it is easier said than done. if you don't have the right tool, it is pretty difficult to do it professionally. For ex, how would you make sure that your cuts have exactly the same size? What about the finish? Do you know when you use screws to bind the boards together, the joining two boards tend to move so you need some clamp? If u are using dowel join, how do you make sure the two holes are compatible so the boards are aligned? There are many more things to consider. also, if you cut the boards in homedept, precisions are NOT guaranteed. You can see 1/4" difference between cuts, that is unbarable.
