Emergency crews had to use special equipment to get to the occupants of this car, involved in a crash late Friday night in Winnipeg. (CBC)Two men in their early 20s are dead following a car crash on Winnipeg's Bishop Grandin Boulevard around 11:30 p.m. Friday night.
The wrecked vehicle was almost ripped into two after slamming into a hydro pole.
Four people were in the car, police said Saturday.
The driver and front seat passenger died in hospital.
Two other men, also in their early 20s, were extracted from the back seats. They were still being treated for their injuries. One was reported to be in stable condition, the other in serious condition.
The victims' names were not released.
Police say it appears the driver lost control of the car on Bishop Grandin Boulevard, between St. Mary's Road and River Road.
The route was closed for most of the night while police investigated, and reopened Saturday morning.
Police said speed was a factor in the crash, and they were investigating whether alcohol or road conditions may have contributed to the driver losing control.
