Ontario tax collectors will get a six-month "severance" package worth as much as $45,000 each as the province moves to harmonize sales taxes, even though those workers will not lose their jobs.
Finance Minister Dwight Duncan says that in agreeing to the move, the province is simply honouring the terms of the collective agreement for more than 1,250 provincial collectors who will now work for the federal government.
The move is a part of the HST conversion plan, and Duncan says he's happy the Canada Revenue Agency is willing to take the extra workers.
The idea of paying off workers who are not losing their jobs, however, has infuriated the Progressive Conservatives.
"Apparently they'll continue to work in the same office," said party critic Ted Arnott, MPP for Wellington-Halton Hills. "They're not going to miss a day of work, and they're being paid up to $45,000 dollars just to change their business cards."
Duncan said the province has no choice but to pay the workers their severance.
"The Conservative government introduced that clause into the collective agreement," Duncan told Queen's Park Thursday.
Duncan says converting the employees to federal workers will save the province of Ontario approximately $100 million per year.
When asked by CBC News for exactly how much the severance payout will cost taxpayers, the government could not produce that figure.

据说在CCRA内部也有狗咬狗式的争吵。原因就是那批人官多兵少，级别，收入大大高于CCRA。他们来了，就得占个茅坑，这就挡了不少人盼望已久的升职。所以CCRA Union坚决反对他们进来。现在看来是没能挡住。

每人$45000修一个终身茅坑，让这伙人每天并排趴进去吃！
