Banks simply charge more. Their tools are not bad. If you do not use their tools much, try other stock brokers.

HSBC has a flat rate $29 for stocks 2.01 over with 1000 or less.

try not to open stock account at bank, it's much expensive. Scotia Itrade that's the one I use.
