How to make portions of hard drive without formatting?

This is new computer. If format the hard drve, would The factory recovery system's partition be gone?

Since it is a new machine, I guess that your are trying to achieve one of the following: 1. to create a logica partition or drive for user data; 2. to install a new system; 3. to kill viruses by formatting the C drive. Or are you attempting on anything else? Please specify what you want to do and then others may be able to help you.

Thanks to the two replys.

Just want to create some parititions for user data, in case that the boot drive have to be recovery or be formatted, and also for the reasons of easy to organize and easy to find the user data.

Got the solution how to partition a hard drive without affecting the exist data in the hard drive, which is "shrink volume" method in the Disk Management.

But, my boot drive can be shrink to half volume of original volume only, that is 470GB of the 1T hard drive. The reason may be there is an unremovable file on there point, that the help topic says.

Some body know how to find the unremovable files?

The factory recovery disk/partition can be formattable, or is totally security locked?

现在厂家为节省成本,不送恢复光盘.

最好先自作一套恢复光盘.

有时候The factory recovery system's partition出问题, 一键恢复根本不起作用.

有些免费软件可以分区. Google "disk partition sofwtare"

不过有些电脑在一键恢复前, 必须将分区恢复原状. 不然的话, 一键恢复可能不起作用. 但是如果有恢复光盘, 还是可以恢复.
