Here is the information for tinting your windows:

Remark: - Type: FILM means LT(light Transmit) % refers to the film itself.
NET means LT % refers to the combined LT of film & glass.
- WindShield: Presumably, NR tinting is permitted above the AS-1 line. If the law
specifies only the AS-1 line, AS-1 appears. If AS-1 or specified inches
appears, the AS-1 is assumed and only the number at inches down appears.
So, It could be no problem if you want tint you windows in Ontario. Because some items is vague, you 'd better to use the high LT film. Also keep in mind open your windows when you deal with the policemen in your car.
2. TIPs for DIY:
Get the 3M stuff. Best there is! But usually most expensive. Hard to find, because those who have it are pro-installers, and wont really sell it to you because your taking their money away.
You need to see if there are any DMV laws about restrictions on tint in your neck of the woods, as you can easily get a ticket, or fail inspection.
Best film has high percentage of titanium, and looks like aluminum foil from the outside, and almost nonexistant from the inside. This varies with the percentage of titanium in the film. Highest levels cost the most.
Stay away from real dark(black) films, as the tend to heat the car by absorbing heat.
Pretty easy to install. Need to make sure your glass is absolutely clean before you apply the film. Trim to size leaving a little excess to be trimmed after install. Basically some good planning goes a long way!
)
Some places offer a film install kits, which come with a few helpful tools of the trade.
The films are glued to your windows once the water underneath dries. Removal can be a pain. You cant stain glass.
Hope this helpful!
Thanks
