Professor Bu will talk about China’s growth prospect by examining the country’s undertakings in urbanization, human capital development and green initiatives. The implications for western companies doing business in China will also be explored,
particularly in the context of the vast potential of China’s hinterland and the rising

breed of ambitious Chinese local firms.

Nailin Bu is Associate Professor of International Business at Queen’s University’s
School of Business. A native of Shanghai, she specializes in cross-cultural management,
management in China and the Asia-Pacific regions, international business strategy and
country analysis. Her research has been funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities
Research Council of Canada, CGA-Canada and other agencies. Her scholarly publications have involved collaboration with colleagues in China, Taiwan, and Japan. Her current research explores the networking practices of senior and middle-level managers in China, the determinants of voluntary turnover among managers and professionals in China, and Chinese consumers’ retail store choice behaviours.

Dr. Bu received her undergraduate and master education at Shanghai’s Fudan University
and Shanghai Jiaotong University respectively. After obtaining her Ph.D. from the University of British Columbia she taught at the University of Victoria prior to her appointment at Queen’s.
