HOw to add Linksys 4-port router into the network

I need your help, my laptop is working well with Rogers cable modem, but when I tried to add a linksys router between my laptop and the cable modem, it just couldn't work, any expert who has the experience doing this, please give me some instruction, thanks!

The CAT5 Ethernet cable connecting the cable modem and the router is straight-through, and the ehternet cable between router and laptop is also straight-through

进入你的router的设置，看DHCP是否enable. Enable DHCP 并且给出IP地址的Scope, 同时设置router的DNS为Rogers指定的DNS地址。然后在router中设置登陆用户名和密码。 重新启动router, 进入router的设置屏幕，查看router 的状态是否是Connected or Disconnected.

将你的laptop设置为DHCP client,即允许动态得到IP地址。然后在DOS Prompt下查看是否得到了一个合法的IP地址，即这个IP地址是在你设置的IP Scope范围内。如果可以，就应该可以访问了。

请不要使用任何Rogers给你的上网软件。

俺因为不用LinkSys和Rogers, 所以仅供参考。如有偏差，请勿责怪。

Henshui, thank you very much! But is cable modem also using PPPoE, or just DSL modem? Also, Linksys
s router seemes can't be check whether it's connected or not, any other ideas please? Thanks a lot for reply my post at mid-night
