[FONT=Times New Roman,Times New Roman]Dr. Paul Evans will speak about China's rise as a global power which is more than just economics. With this new status, there are changes in the global balance of power and in the international institutions and universal values that Canada has long cherished. Professor Evans will examine the implications for Canada. Issues he will address include how should we respond to global China as individual citizens and as a nation? Is engagement still the right approach?" [/FONT]
[FONT=Times New Roman,Times New Roman]Dr. Evans is Director, Institute of Asian Research, University of British Columbia. Among his many distinctions: he was Visiting Scholar, Asia Center, Harvard University (1997-99); Director, University of Toronto-York University, Joint Centre for Asia Pacific Studies (1991-96); Co-chair, Canadian Member Committee of the Council for Security Cooperation in Asia Pacific (1993-97); co-chair of North Pacific Working Group, CSCAP (1994-98); Co-chair of the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada (2005-08). Professor Evans’ current writing focuses on East Asian regionalism and Canada's Asia policy; he is completing a book on Canada and global China. [/FONT]
