Jean Chretien, prime minister of Canada, announced today that Canada will not participate in the military actions against Iraq without the approval from UN Security Council.

From the House of Commons, Monday March 17, 2003

"Mr. Speaker, I want to set out the position of the government of Canada. We believe that Iraq must fully abide by the resolution of the United Nations Security Council. We have always made clear that Canada will require the approval of the Security Council if we were to participate in (a) military campaign. Over the last few weeks the Security Council has been unable to agree on a new resolution authorizing military action. Canada worked very hard to find a compromise to bridge the gap in the Security Council. Unfortunately we were not successful. If military action proceeds without a new resolution of the Security Council, Canada will not participate. "

A few interesting points in Bush's Address of Nation:

1. "[Iraq] has uniformly defied Security Council resolutions demanding full disarmament," Bush said "Over the years, U.N. weapons inspectors have been threatened by Iraqi officials, electronically bugged and systematically deceived. Peaceful efforts to disarm the Iraq regime have failed again and again because we are not dealing with peaceful men.

--Apparently the United States has decided to go against the UN Security Council recommendation to peacefully disarm Iraq. "U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan reiterated his stance that, should military action occur in the region without the blessing of the world body, "'Its legitimacy would be questioned.'" [www.CNN.com]

2. "The regime has a history of reckless aggression in the Middle East. It has a deep hatred of America and our friends, and it has aided, trained and harbored terrorists, including operatives of al Qaeda," he continued.

--There is no evidence whatsoever that Saddam was involved with Al Qaeda.

3. "The danger is clear: Using chemical, biological or, one day, nuclear weapons obtained with the help of Iraq, the terrorists could fulfill their stated ambitions and kill thousands or hundreds of thousands of innocent people in our country or any other," Bush said.

--Because there is a general belief that Iraq is behind the terroist attack of 9-11, Bush is once again implying that Saddam is supporting the terroists, and that it will always be an imminent danger to the Americans if Sadaam is still in power.

和几位伊拉克的同学聊天，他们也很无奈，既不想萨达姆的独裁继续，又不愿被大叔解放，眼睁睁看着人家杀上门来。这场战争没有赢家，绝对的输家是联合国，如果美国在上一次就端掉萨达姆，还会有今天么？我想美国人当年宁愿留着这个暴君也要保持区域“平衡”，终于养虎为患。即便如此，我还是觉得端掉这个王八蛋再说。只是美国如果赢了的话，后果还真无法想象。

不支持美国对加拿大没什么好处，今天听收音机，很多加国人对加政府不公开支持美国不满。

其实更该端掉的是金正日。萨达姆至少没有象金正日，自己上网，却把全国的收音机固定成几个台。但是穆斯林的宗教冲突比意识形态冲突更可怕。

美国下一个会打金正日吗?

我听收音机怎么倒听到很多人反战？
期待外国力量来解决国内问题，只能够是引狼入室~

不支持美国对加拿大没什么好处，今天听收音机，很多加国人对加政府不公开支持美国不满。

其实更该端掉的是金正日。萨达姆至少没有象金正日，自己上网，却把全国的收音机固定成几个台。但是穆斯林的宗教冲突比意识形态冲突更可怕。

美国下一个会打金正日吗?

AM58.3，你说是哪一国的广播。你如果说有很多人反对参战，这是肯定的，但和美国英国有特殊关系的加拿大，没有很多人支持美国英国? 这也是加国政府不参战，但并不反对战争的原因。
