6月5日之前,为政府打工,6月5日以后挣的钱归自己。
但是Albertans were tax-free as of May 19。

两口之家全年缴税$39,000,占收入的42%。

真羡慕那些把老老小小都移民来吃福利的人。

Tax Freedom Day arrives three days late for Canadians

As of today, Canadians can finally take home the bacon and eat it, too.

As of today, Canadians can finally take home the bacon and eat it, too.

Tax Freedom Day is here, albeit three days later than it was last year, based on the Canadian average, according to the Fraser Institute.

Should Canadians be required to pay all their taxes upfront — rather than a little bit each paycheque and every time they make a purchase — Tax Freedom Day is the day they would at last be able to start keeping their money.

In Alberta, where taxes are lower, Tax Freedom Day was May 19.

“One of the reasons you’re seeing a later Tax Freedom Day in 2010 is because the economy is rebounded,” said Niels Veldhuis, co-author of the report.

“People are spending a little bit more money, governments are therefore collecting more sales taxes and other types of taxes, so that’s part of the reason for the three-day increase in Tax Freedom Day.”

Gas and mining tax hikes in Quebec, which also introduced a health tax, as well as increases in B.C.’s health tax, Saskatchewan’s tobacco and alcohol taxes, Manitoba’s tobacco taxes and Nova Scotia’s income and sales taxes also contributed to the delay, Veldhuis said.

Although Canadians have been forced to pay taxes for longer this year, the Fraser Institute said it would be worse if governments didn’t run a deficit to cover all expenditures.

Veldhuis said Tax Freedom Day would have been June 30 this year had federal and provincial governments decided to balance their books and not run deficits — with 15 of the 25 additional days attributed to the federal deficit, while the remainder are due to provincial numbers.

Scott Hennig, Alberta director of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation, said while Alberta is fortunate to pay fewer taxes than other jurisdictions, it still needs to rein in its deficit.

“I hope they get the deficit under control so we don’t lose that (Alberta) advantage,” Hennig said. “They need to do some heavy lifting to maintain that position and hopefully improve it.”

According to the report — produced annually using a complicated set of calculations that factor in all federal, provincial and municipal taxes — the average couple will have forked over more than $39,000 by the end of the year, more than 42 per cent of their household income.

Meanwhile, a family of four with two children under the age of 18 will have spent nearly $43,800 in taxes.

Of that amount, Calgarians would pay about $2,197 in property taxes, based on a house worth the median average of $374,000. Of that amount, just over 53 per cent is collected by the city and the rest goes to the province.
