Community Development Recreation Assistants (2) – Summer Position
This position is subject to funding approval
The Nepean Housing Corporation is a non-profit housing provider with 559 units of subsidized and market rent housing. Nepean Housing is seeking two Community Development RecreationAssistants to assist the Community Developer with summer recreation planning and implementation. This is an ideal opportunity for social work and recreation students to learn about the challenges of child and youth programming in social housing and provide programming that is affordable, fun and engaging for the tenant population.

The Community Development RecreationAssistant will work with the Community Developer as the main facilitator in running groups, supervising children, planning activities (arts and crafts time, playing games, planning and carrying out recreational, athletic, fitness and sports activities).

Applicants MUST be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment, enrolled as a full-time student in the previous academic year and intending to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year, be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or refugee, and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with the relevant federal and provincial legislation and regulations. Applicants must also provide a valid Criminal Reference Check.

Applicants should be enrolled in a relevant post-secondary program related to the position requirements. Qualifications must include First Aid and CPR level C and possession of, or working towards, one or a combination of: Child and Youth Care Worker (CCW/CYW) Diploma, Social Service Worker (SSW) Diploma, Recreational Worker Diploma, Fitness Diploma, Non-violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) Certificate. The position requires the ability to travel independently between all NHC communities from Bells Corners to Barrhaven with program materials. A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle would be considered assets.

The position pays $11.75 per hour for 32 hrs./week starting June 28 and ending August 27.
