I talked to a mortgage broker yesterday. He predicted there will be at least 10% price decrease within next 12 months in Ottawa, because in some area the price has been up for more than 30% in last 3 years. He suggested me to offer a price 10% lower than the asking price.

You had a good choice. But I would ask the mortgage broker for mortgage rate, not the housing price. The interest rate will stay low for the next three years, unless the US, Eroupe ...

You're probably right. Mortgage brokers are supposed to know more about mortgage rate than prices, but..., I guess predicting rates is more difficult than predicting prices.

That may not be true. Most investors are knowing the inerest rate for the next three years in Canadian housing market. But, you hear the un-prof. saying the interst rate is going up "high".

By the way, the Real Estate market is not like stock market. A good investor is making money when the market is going up, down and sideways. Never give any adivce on "a good time" to buy/sell.

No, a good investor in stock market is making money when the market is going up, down and sideways, because he can buy, sell, short sell stocks. In real estate market, you can "short sale" houses too, but it means completely different thing.
