Good Write Just Right!

<Take this effective curse that reveals writing secret, beauty, surprise and power

You might want to change the spelling of the highlighted word. Nobody would be interested in taking a "curse."

Thanks for locating it - an innocent one though!

Thanks for "locating" it - an innocent one though!

The correct word should be "identifying" or "catching." It maybe innocent but for what you are trying to do one you can ill afford. Good luck!

Locating is one of the good choices. Thanks anyway!!!

It started sailing right. I'm in the course already.

Next?

Actually, I'm thinking of a plan to take one of those courses. Any suggestion from you?

Regards!

Any of these courses would be beneficial. However, my recommendation is to start with a course which focuses on clarity and brevity. Get in the habit of writing is probably the most important first step.

To write well, you'll also need to read as much as you can and in as big a variety as you can. Working on your oral comprehension and ability to speak will definitely also help. Like fitness training, you can try spot training but your ability to do well in any area will improve much faster if you get fit in general.

Happy writing!

Other words/expressions one can use are "noticing" and "pointing out" although they don't quite mean the same thing. Locating is technically OK but typically one locates when one is looking for a defined target. In this case, I was not looking for anything specific. Rather, something caught my attention. "Noticing" or "catching" therefore are probably the most appropriate words.

Enjoy!

If it were me, I would take "poiting out", and simply correct the typo. Thanks to whom who carefully pointed it out.

By the way, is the "one" used in your sentence correct?

Phillip Lopate writes in "The Art of the Personal Essay":

The enemy of the personal essay is self-righteousness, not just because it is tiresome and ugly in itself, but because it slows down the dialectic of self-questioning, what Cioran calls “thinking against oneself.”

I find it compelling that Lopate suggets we begin our journey with the idea of "self-questioning" .

However, is the "one" correctly used in your sentence?

Phillip Locate writes in "The Art of the Personal Essay":

The enemy of the personal essay is self-righteousness, not just because it is tiresome and ugly in itself, but because it slows down the dialectic of self-questioning, what Cioran calls “thinking against oneself.”

I find it compelling that Locate suggests we begin our journey with the idea of "self-questioning" .

The correct word is "were," because it is subjunctive. In other words, the reality is you were not the person who had written the original sentence. Other examples:
"If I were young again, I would...." The reality is that I will never be young again, at least not physically.

"If I had a million dollars, I would..." The reality is that I don't yet have a million dollars.

"One" is used here in the place of "you" or "we." While by using "you" it does bring the writer and the audience closer, it can also come across as lecturing. "We" on the other hand would certainly also shorten the distance between the writer and the audience. However, it could come across as sounding too familiar. Hence, "one."

Agree on beginning the journey with self-questioning, which is the start of awareness and learning.

If you find the correction of typos offensive, we can take these discussions offline. I have kept them on the forum for the benefit of those who are looking for a way to improve their writing.

In any case, I highly recommend taking a writing course.
